This professional development session provides educators with an overview of the  Elective and its role in preparing students for college, career, and life readiness. Participants will explore the foundational components of the AVID Elective for grades 6–12, including WICOR strategies (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading), Focused Note-Taking, AVID Tutorials, student goal setting, and college/career/military readiness practices. The session will also highlight how the AVID Elective supports “academic middle” students by building academic confidence, leadership skills, and a college-going mindset. Teachers will gain practical strategies and insight into how AVID methodologies can support student success across all content areas.
